Oliebollen recipe (Dutch Donut)

oliebollenThis special food eats or sells during New years and winter time. You can find a fresh made Oliebollen by bakery or shopping area. The best oliebollen is to make it yourself. You can see the recipes bellow, originally taken from ah.nl :

Ingredients for 20 pieces Oliebollen :

250 ml semi-skimmed milk
1 sachet dried yeast (3 bags @ 7 g)
1 tbsp sugar
300 g flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 liters of sunflower oil or soy bean oil
Powdered Sugar

Mixers or food processor
clean fryer
2 tablespoons
2 large mixing bowls
2 platter or strainer
many kitchen paper
clean tea towels

1. Heat the milk in a saucepan until slightly warm. Mix 100 ml of warm milk, yeast and sugar in a bowl. Let stand 5 minutes until foaming. In the meantime, sift the flour into a mixing bowl. This prevents lumps.
2. Make a little hole in the flour and add the remaining milk, the yeast mixture, egg and 1 pinch salt. Stir with a whisk smooth.
3. Cover the bowl with a clean, warm, damp towel. Let rise for 1 hour in a warm, no wind place until the dough has doubled in volume. The rise makes the Oliebollen light and airy.
4. Heat the oil in the pan to 180 º C.
5. Dip a tablespoon briefly in the hot oil and make a small mounds dough. Let them glide gently into the oil. Do not make them too big and do not put too much in one time into the oil! If the bulbs are not self flip, dip them a second under, usually turning them over.
6.  Take out the oliebollen from the pan as they brown evenly. Just above the pan and let it lay in a bowl or colander with kitchen paper.
7. Sprinkle with powdered sugar above oliebollen only if they have sufficiently cooled.

In this modern time, you can find ready to use oliebollen powder mix in the Supermaket. Good luck and eet smakelijk!
